Paid to be a White Guy

"Rent a White Guy" in China.

White guys getting $1000 a week to pretend to be executives, CEOs, and deliver speeches.

Can we say "passing" is now something entire corporations do?

But maybe that's just me projecting my US race-relations lens on everything, right? After all, I'm sure there'll soon be a market for black guys, latino guys, indian guys, and, hell, even women, right?

I read it a bit more cynically, perhaps--importing a guy to speak "accentless" English is another ticky box checked. It reinforces the white=authoritative paradigm in a bad way, yes, but it's not as though anyone listens to what those guys say when they're not on script. If companies were recruiting white folk because they thought the white people would somehow do a better job, I'd be more worried.

I do find the massive paycheck reprehensible, since when other folks are dressed up to perform on demand, they wear fake-fur bear suits and such, and barely earn their food. :/
