[livejournal.com profile] oyceter's most recent review post makes me want to check out Beverly Daniel Tatum's work.

I really like her work. I don't know if you'll find Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together? as helpful as I did, but that is because it has a lot of Anti-Racism 101 stuff, which I really needed last year and which I suspect you are way beyond ;). It also gave me a lot of helpful tools to use to think about racism and to explain it to others too.

I think all anti-racist work has to go both ways on the spectrum- towards the basics if only because you have teach others, and towards the more complex and subtle to see the bigger picture.

Of course, the real problem is finding a way of transmitting anti-racist values to those who are already indoctrinated otherwise. I mean, if we got the basics into the heads of the general populace, I bet 80-90% of the race problems would disappear. (also, this applies just as much to sexism and homophobia as well.)
