Sometimes when talking about racism, people like to bring up the fact of other historical prejudices in the past, for example, discrimination against the Irish in the US.

Of course, the other context is to consider how much it's happening right now*.

Because even though I'm part Irish, no one has run up on me and told me "You damn Micks are taking all our jobs!"

(* Nevermind you know, that just because other people are discriminated against, that it somehow invalidates the conversation at hand.)

I absolutely hate when people do this. It's usually a sign they aren't going to listen.

I don't take it as usually, I take it as guaranteed.

Because if you're pulling up examples of racism you've never witnessed or experienced to shut down discussions of racism you probably HAVE witnessed (though not acknowledged)?

It's really about their discomfort level and the demand that we always be mindful of their comfort/our proper places.

THIS.

Thisthisthis.

It needs calling out every time it happens, because of the whole Miss Scarlett "victimhood" game that goes on behind it. Ugh.
