High School teacher catches 3 week suspension for using a printed handout of Blue Scholars lyrics of a song criticizing the education system.

I hated school for the entire time I was in it. I loved learning, but school was never really about that. It was pretty clear when I'd finish my homework during class, then start drawing. Teachers were upset that I was doing something with my time - it wasn't about doing the work, or knowing the facts, it was about obedience, pointless obedience.

Ideas and critical thought are counter to obedience, and basically, it's less education and more a dulling of the mind.

Good to see things ain't changed.

What I liked about the report you linked to was it seemed pretty balanced... and apparently the issue is that there was profanity in the lyrics and the teacher had not gone through the administrative procedure required for supplementary material handouts?

The two problems here, are that by high school level, students are often reading books that have profanity, sexual situations, murder, suicide, drugs, etc. as part of course material - so profanity is a stretch. And the issue of review process makes sense, though 3 weeks of suspension is the kind of thing you usually reserve for very serious actions.
