A seeker of truth sends a letter to a sage, hoping to study with him for awhile an compare his wisdom to other doctrines, philosophies and ideas the seeker had encountered on his quest for truth.
The sage sends back a package with a container of water, oil, and a cotton wick. And a letter:
"If you put the wick in oil, and light it, you will have light. If you put it in water, and light it, you will not have light. If you mix the oil and the water and put the wick in, you will have light, then a sputtering out. There's no need to travel and spend time studying to perform this experiment."
