yeloson: (I'll cut you)
I'm going to quote myself on something folks need to learn:

"Anyone whose sole or primary 'connection' with women of color (or any other oppressed group) is through blogging (or books, or museums, or music, etc.) is very far from being in a place to talk about "learning" or "growing" from a group of people whom they have chosen not to associate."

If you want to know about folks, but you won't hang out with them? If your circles seem to "lack" said folks despite a larger demographic? Odds are you're working really hard to not be around people.

It's like yoga without Indians, kung fu without Chinese, jazz without Black folks, and on and on. When you want what we have for your benefit but you don't want us around?

Don't think we don't know what that is:

That's appropriation.

And odds are, until you manage to dislodge yourself from the center of the fucking universe, even if you want us around, we sure as hell don't want you.
