I think there's this way in which, as being just below white folks in the racism hierarchy, that it's imperative that they not allow us to have asian male lead heroes. You know, when you process the combination of colorism + patriarchy, that puts us too close to the vaunted white male position. Plus I think they're still trying to recover from having Bruce Lee come a little too hard as an icon for them to take the chance of that happening again.
Of course, going deeper into that, we also don't see the NDN or Latino lead heroes either. Perhaps in wider context it has to deal with the perpetual foreigner status.
